Have you looked at the wonderful shape of Numbers?
Eenie loves Numbers! There is so much to learn, to begin to understand and to enjoy! Although we generally call them ‘Arabic’ numerals, since they reached Europe via Arab culture in the the ninth or tenth centuries, the symbols – Numbers – were originally from India! There is a lot of history around the formation of the Numbers that we recognise and teach today.
The decimal Hindu–Arabic numeral system was evidently developed in India by around 700. In fact the development was gradual, spanning several centuries, but the main decisive step has been explained as being probably provided by the formulation of zero by Brahmagupta as a numeral in 628. In principle , by the 15th and 16th century, Numbers had reached their modern form. It is fairly easy to see 1, 2 and 3 as corruptions or developments of the horizontal lines at the top of the illustration below- the origins for the other numerals are quite hard to see as they had to change over many years.
